Plotl Users' Guide
What It Is

Plotl is a batch mode graphics engine. Plotl takes
data from text or
netCDF files
and generates
a graph determined by instructions from either a file, stdin, or
from the command line.
- Plotl is capable of making publication
quality line graphs, scatter plots, histograms, contour plots, and relief
plots in either black and white, grayscale, or color.
- Plotl has capabilities to manipulate, sort, smooth, and
filter the data.
- Output from Plotl is PostScript.
- Plotl runs on various unix and unix-like operating systems.
What It Is Not
- Plotl is not an interactive plotting program with a GUI. Plotl is
invoked from the command line. This makes
the Macintosh version of Plotl very un-Mac-ish.

The best way to learn how to use Plotl is to see example scripts, and
the resulting graphics. If you follow through this list of scripts you
will be well on your way to successfully using Plotl.
